Weekend recap.

We had a nice little weekend with good friends, good food and lots of family time.

Look for this cute mod dress to hit the shop sometime this week!

White room.

Two little white dresses coming to the shop soon! One for a baby and one for a little girl. Both very, very sweet and very, very white. Perfect for spring! (Which I am totally ready for, by the way. Even the faux-winter we're having in Minnesota is getting old to me.)

Shop Update.

Another mini shop update tonight! It turned out to be an '80s-themed update, actually. I tend to favor clothes from the '40s, '50s, '60s and '70s when I'm out hunting, but every once in a while something from the '80s just calls my name.

The first dress is Diane von Furstenberg, which kind of blew my mind as I didn't realize she designed a line of clothes for young girls in the '80s. But she did, and this dress is awesomely '80s.

The skirt and blouse are a set. I love finding intact clothing sets! I feel like I'm helping to preserve something extra special. They're all available now in the Potato Cake Vintage shop.

Shop Preview

A sample of some of the new things coming to the shop soon! I'm hoping to take the measurements this afternoon and have them up tonight. I'm not usually one for licensed characters but that vintage Snoopy sweater is so crazily cute!

Weekend recap.

Hey guys! We got some snow in Minneapolis today, so my drive to work this morning was pret-ty slow. How was your weekend? I had a quiet one at home with my family mostly, though on Friday I was lucky enough to get tickets to a local food and drink tasting event held in Minneapolis, the Heavy Table’s North Coast Nosh. My husband stayed home with the kiddos so I could meet up with friends and gorge myself on charcuterie, macarons, Nutella-filled doughnuts and Crispin Cider. Oh man, it was some gooooood stuff!

Another fun part of the weekend was watching last year's Winnie the Pooh movie with my daughter. It’s been on my request list at the library for months and it finally came in last week. I took her to see it in the theater last fall—it was her first movie theater experience! We went to a neighborhood theater that has comfy chairs and serves food, so she was pretty thrilled with the whole experience. It was fun to rewatch it with her again, and amusing to see her laugh at the same jokes that made her giggle the first time around.

I also squeezed in some thrifting! I’m hoping to take pictures soon so I can get everything in the shop this week. Gotta wait until I have some good daylight!

Jumping in.

Welcome to the first post of the Potato Cake Vintage blog! I have to admit, I haven't had a blog in a very long time so I'm pretty rusty at this stuff. But I'm excited to have this space to talk about three of the things I'm passionate about: my kids, thrifting and vintage clothes!

I'm a mama to a three-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy. Together with my husband, we live in a suburb of Minneapolis. I've been a pretty avid thrifter for the kids since the week I found out I was pregnant with my first baby. It wasn't long before I was buying clothes that I knew my kids couldn't wear (wrong size, wrong gender, wrong season) just because all that vintage kept calling to me. I had quite a stockpile, so in October I opened Potato Cake Vintage. It's been an amazing few months, and I'm excited to see where the shop goes from here!

OK, enough shop talk. I'll wrap this up with a picture of my daughter holding one of the lobsters we got for our special New Year's Eve dinner. We bought the lobsters from Coastal Seafood, and while I was a little Annie Hall about them, my daughter was (mostly) excited to meet them.
